On Tuesday, 6 April 2021, a pedestrian footbridge was installed on the ChaGal worksite operated by INFRA-GC Île-de-France.
This stage of the project required the installation of three sections of a pedestrian footbridge. The metal bridge rests on concrete supports, with the largest section weighing around 15 tons.
Installation was managed by project co-contractor Berthold. The challenge lay in making the footbridge usable as a cable support to allow SNCF to reroute existing cables across the bridge, allowing the consortium to build piles for the Chartres and Gallardon bridges under a temporary line closure / power shutdown this summer.
This crucial operation is a first step forward for the project. It was imperative that the bridge be installed this week to give SNCF time to reroute the cables and allow progress to the next stage: building the piles this summer and siting the imposing crane with its 3,200-ton lifting capacity.
